The Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging is designated by the Governor as the "State Unit on Aging," to receive and administer federal funds received through the Older Americans Act. Mecklenburg County - Status of Seniors Initiative (SOSI)
On May 9, 2002, the Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) directed the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Social Services Committee (SSC) of the Human Services Council to develop an annual "Status of Seniors" report. The intent was to focus on the quality of life for older adults in Mecklenburg County, including but not limited to issues of health, medical care, nutrition, safety, housing, transportation, independence, self-sufficiency and other quality of life factors.

Senior Corps is a network of programs that tap the experience, skills, and talents of older citizens to meet community challenges. Through its three programs--Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, and RSVP (the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program)--more than half a million Americans age 55 and over assist local nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations in carrying out their missions.

This website for older adults was developed by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine, both part of the National Institutes of Health. It can be viewed in large print or as a talking web site. (Click the "Turn Speech On" button at the top of the page to hear the text read aloud.) It includes in-depth information on a variety of health issues of concern to seniors. Many short videos are interspersed with the text.
North Carolina Senior Care Program
This program is designed specifically to provide prescription drug assistance to North Carolina seniors diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and/or diabetes and who meet certain income guidelines. The site includes details on eligibility requirements, an online application, training materials, and other helpful information about the program.

This national organization provides resources to help those who care for disabled or frail elders. Includes information on managing Alzheimer's disease, tax issues, work and eldercare, an online support group, and much more. Has significant content on elder abuse and its prevention.

Provides eligibility information and applications for the various Patient Assistance Programs that drug companies offer.
